For the record...

I'm not complaining, but this morning sickness is kicking my butt today!

7 Weeks!

Baby's now the size of a blueberry!
Baby's brain -- both hemispheres! -- is growing fast, generating about one hundred new cells every minute. Arms and legs are emerging as joints start to form, and a permanent set of kidneys (baby's third!) is now in place.

How Far Along: 7 weeks and 5 days
Total weight gain: Still not getting on a scale
Maternity clothes: Not wearing any yet, but I can tell that my scrub pants and my bra feel tight by days end
Sleep: I get sleepy at work after lunch and if I sit down to chart. On my days off, I still can't sleep past 8 AM, but after I get up, I can take multi-hour naps during the day.
Best Moment this week: Seeing the heartbeat again at Dr. Butler's office (a strong 153 bpm and growth right on schedule!) and getting turned over to my obstetrician Dr. Harper. I go to see him next week!
Movement: None yet
Gender: All of the gender prediction charts say girl, but we'll see!
Labor signs: None and I hope not to see any for a long time!
Belly button: Innie
Cravings: Still craving the orange juice and I really want some sushi, but I'm going to have to get over that.
Nausea: Some days it's an all day thing and nothing helps, including eating or taking a nap. I have still only vomited while brushing my teeth or in the shower. And if I haven't had anything to eat in awhile, the nausea comes on really fast.
What I miss: Loving every minute!
Stretch Marks: No new ones
Weekly wisdom: Keeping snack items in my lunch bag is a very good idea.
What I am looking forward to this week: Seeing some of my fam this weekend.

Such An Amazing Gift

Don't you agree?

When we first got to Dr. Butler's office on Wednesday morning, we had to wait a few minutes in the waiting room. The nurse Dee came out to ask me how I'd been feeling and I said very blah for the past several days and she was very glad to hear that. She asked if there had been any bleeding and I was happy to report no. She took us back to the ultrasound room, my home away from home for the first part of January. I got ready and we waited a few more minutes for Dr. Butler to come in. It didn't take long for him to find the heartbeat and it was just flickering away! The heartbeat was measured at 125 and Dr. Butler said normal is 120-180. I was lying there with tears falling from my eyes at the beautiful sight. It was unbelievable. He was unable to get a length measurement because he said "he is lying against the wall." Apparently he thinks it's a boy! He said everything looked great and he wants to see me again next Tuesday for another ultrasound before turning me over to my OB/Gyn Dr. Harper. He also confirmed my due date of 10/10/10. It's been a great week and I can't wait until we see our sweet pea/blueberry next Tuesday!

6 Weeks Today! -- Update

From The Bump ...

Baby's the size of a sweet pea!
Growing like crazy, baby is starting to sprout eyes, ears, nose, cheeks and chin. Those little hands and feet- still webbed like paddles- might wiggle by week's end, the heart is beating (almost twice as fast as yours!), and blood is starting to circulate.

How Far Along: 6 weeks and 4 days
Total weight gain: Still not getting on a scale and they didn't make me at the doctor's office!
Maternity clothes: Not wearing any yet, but my mom and I went to Motherhood Maternity yesterday and I bought a few things, including a Belly Sleeve and some sleeping bras
Sleep: I'm still waking up around 8 AM on my days off, which is annoying, but I've been taking a nap in the afternoon and then one before bed.
Best Moment this week: Seeing our baby's heartbeat! Absolutely amazing!
Movement: None yet
Gender: I'd be happy with either, but I'm apparently calling it a she unconsciously. That's what I've been told any way!
Labor signs: None and I hope not to see any for a long time!
Belly button: Innie
Cravings: Orange juice
Nausea: Mostly wretching while brushing my teeth. And I feel very blah if I don't get to eat breakfast at work.
What I miss: I'm enjoying every minute!
Stretch Marks: No new ones
Weekly wisdom: Eating something on the way to work helps with the morning nausea
What I am looking forward to this week: Making sure everything is going great at the doctor's office and seeing the heartbeat

5 Weeks!

From The Bump ...

Baby's now the size of an appleseed!
Your embryo, which doesn't look like much more than a tadpole right now, is actually starting to form major organs (heart, kidney, liver, stomach) and systems (nervous, circulatory, digestive). Baby's presence in your uterus triggers production of HCG (the hormone detected by pregnancy tests), which triggers the production of other hormones like estrogen and progesterone, which triggers all those great symptoms you've probably been noticing

How Far Along: 5 weeks and 2 days
Total weight gain: I don't plan on getting on a scale until I have to
Maternity clothes: None yet. But some co-workers brought me some to borrow!
Sleep:Multiple naps on my days off
Best Moment this week: Getting to hold my baby cousin Alyssa. And seeing Thomas hold her. So cute!
Movement: None yet
Gender: Still no clue, but according to the Chinese Gender chart, I'm having a girl
Labor signs: None and I hope not to see any for a long time!
Belly button: Innie
Cravings: Nothing yet, except things I know I shouldn't eat, like sushi
Nausea: Some dry heaving while brushing my teeth. Ick. But, it's okay!
What I miss: I love everything about my life!
Stretch Marks: No new ones
Weekly wisdom: Thomas is going to be a great dad...but I already knew that.
What I am looking forward to this week: Knowing that my ultrasound appointment is 1 week away!

One more thing...

From The Bump ...

Baby's now the size of a poppyseed!
Now safe in your womb, the ball of cells (blastocyst) is splitting into the embryo (your future child) and placenta. Outside this microscopic speck, the amniotic sac and fluid are forming into protective cushioning.

It's my birthday week!

Yay! I've already gotten the best gift ever, so I know anything else that we do to celebrate tomorrow will be extra special! I've been registering on websites such as What To Expect and The Bump . They've got a lot of great info, including a weekly update of what your body is doing and how your baby is growing. It's so neat! The only strange think I've found so far is that What To Expect says I'm 5 weeks pregnant and The Bump says I'm 4 weeks. And based on a calendar, I'm 4 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I won't really find out for sure until I go to the doctor for my ultrasound (2 weeks from today!), so I guess I'll just wait until then to know for sure! I've been a member of What To Expect since we started trying, so it was so exciting to finally put a due date in! A co-worker of mine also let me borrow her copy of What To Expect When You're Expecting when we started trying. Apparently my doctor's office gives you a copy on your first prenatal visit. We'll see if they still do that! If not, I'll give back her copy and get my own.

I know I'm a little nuts, but I bought more pregnancy tests at Walgreens last night to make sure I'm still pregnant. I know...I'm crazy. But I can't help it. I've just wanted to see a positive sign for so long and I want to make sure it's still there. And it was. And the positive line showed up quick.

I want to be able to write down what I'm feeling, so I found this book at Barnes & Noble.com. It's called The Belly Book by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. Barnes & Noble has a "Pick Me Up" program that allows you to reserve a copy at the store and they'll hold it for 3 days. So I'm going to pick it up tomorrow night after we go out to Natalia's for my birthday dinner. I'm excited about celebrating with my family tomorrow. 28 years old...I can't believe it!

How Far Along: 4 weeks and 3 days
Total weight gain: I don't plan on getting on a scale until I have to
Maternity clothes: Old clothes still fitting
Sleep: I'm not able to sleep in on my days off like I used to be able to. I used to be able to sleep until 2 in the afternoon! Now I wake up around 7:15 and my brain is instantly awake so I can't go back to sleep. Boo.
Best Moment this week:That's a toss-up. Finding out on Sunday that my hCG went up so well, having people ask me questions like names, nursery plans, etc., and telling certain people
Movement: None yet
Nausea: Waves every now and then. I feel like wretching for a second, then it passes. But it's okay! I welcome the symptoms!
Gender: I'm guessing boy or girl. I'm sticking with this one for awhile.
Labor signs: None and I hope not to see any for a long time!
Belly button: Innie
Cravings: Nothing crazy yet
What I miss: Still happy about everything right now!
Stretch Marks: No new ones
